Venues
Giardini
The gardens in the east of Venice have been the traditional venue for the International Art Exhibition since 1895. The area hosts the Padiglione Italia and 29 national pavilions, built at various periods by the participating countries themselves.
Arsenale
Since 1999, the Venice Biennale has engaged in a restoration programme to create exhibition areas in some of the important buildings on the monumental east side of the Arsenale.

Countries that do not own a pavilion in the Giardini area and institutions that organise collateral events are exhibited in a number of other venues in Venice.
Director
Daniel Birnbaum (1963, Stockholm), is the director of the 53rd International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.
